henrik-joretegJavaScript developer, consultant, and trainer Henrik Joreteg will be leading a workshop at this year’s edUi conference. Having released over 100 JavaScript libraries, Henrik believes in open source and wants to help developers push the web to the next level.

We wanted to get to know Henrik a bit better, so we asked him a few questions. Here’s what he had to say:

If your professional life had a soundtrack, what would it be?

Alligator Sky, by Owl City. Why? Because it’s completely nonsensical, totally random, but quite happy.

What would you tell your 10th grade self if you could chat right now?

Buy and hold as much Apple stock as you can possibly afford.

In only three words or phrases, what is your worst UX story?

  1. “New updates are available”
  2. “Click to install them using Windows Update”
  3. Repeat steps one and two for the next 5 hours

What are you going to talk about at edUi?

I will make various wild claims and forward looking statements about the web, and building web apps with JavaScript.

What’s the biggest misconception about building web apps?

There doesn’t need to be a native app for everything, that approach isn’t working anyway. There’s an awful lot of stuff we can and should do with pure web tech. I believe the next few years are going to be awesome for the mobile web!

Henrik Joreteg will lead a half-day workshop at edUi on building JavaScript applications. Or you can catch his short session: The Evolution of the Web App.
